Line Dances? Fun or Cringe?!

Justin Henshaw

Love them or hate them, line dances have been packing wedding dance floors for decades

Are Line Dances Cheesy? Yes. Do They Work? Also Yes.

First off, this is just my opinion. After 17 years of DJing weddings and events, I’ve seen it all. At iSound, the client is always in charge—we play (or don’t play) exactly what our couples and clients want. So, no need to freak out. Haha.

Alright, let’s be real—line dances are cheesy. Okay, really cheesy. But guess what? People love them.

As wedding DJs, we’ve learned one undeniable truth: line dances are icebreakers, and they work. They get people on the dance floor, boost energy, and set the tone for a fun night. And isn’t that the whole point?

The “Acceptable” Line Dances.

Some line dances have stood the test of time and still pack the dance floor—without making guests feel like they’re stuck in a 90s wedding time warp.

The Wobble – Somehow still cool. No one knows why.

Cha Cha Slide – Built-in instructions? Genius.

Cupid Shuffle – A modern twist on the Cha Cha Slide.

The Classics We Still See, but are more rare.

The Electric Slide – Simple, timeless, and always a crowd-pleaser.

The Macarena – Works best with fun-loving crowds who don’t take themselves too seriously.

The Cringe Factor

Yes, some guests groan at the mere mention of a line dance. And sure, we’ve all seen that guy doing the Macarena with way too much enthusiasm. But when the right crowd hears the opening beat of the Wobble or Cupid Shuffle? Suddenly, the dance floor is packed.

The Secret to Line Dance Success

It’s all about reading the room. Some weddings love them. Some don’t. But if the energy is low and people need a little push to get moving, a well-placed Cha Cha Slide can work wonders.

So, should you include line dances at your wedding? Maybe. Maybe not. But don’t dismiss them completely—they’re called icebreakers for a reason. And if they get people dancing, laughing, and having fun, then mission accomplished.

That’s my two cents. 🎶
